DRIVE UNITS

Engineered to perform.
Built to last.

Since the very beginnings of the company in 1931, Vitavox has enjoyed an enviable reputation for the quality of its drive units. The foundations of that reputation are easy to identify: the initial focus on meeting (and surpassing) the high standards required in the theatre and emerging talking picture sectors of the entertainment industry.

From that day to this, and encompassing the subsequent move into the field of domestic sound reproduction, all Vitavox designs have shared a clear objective: the combination of maximum fidelity with reliability.

It has been quite clearly demonstrated that one does not need to be at the expense of the other, and thus we see no reason to change. Vitavox drivers many decades old remain perfectly serviceable, and we take great pride in the fact that those we build today will themselves still be performing superbly for many decades to come.

AlcoMax3.

Besides their robust build, all our drive units share one important feature - they are all built around an Alcomax3 Alnico magnet.

Alnico is an alloy of Aluminium, Nickel and Cobalt, and is available in a variety of grades and subgrades, each with its own specific recipe. Differing ratios of the principal constituents, together with varying amounts of further trace elements imbue unique magnetic properties.

Alcomax3 is a grade produced via casting and subsequent precision grinding, and is particularly suited to use in loudspeakers. When forming part of a correctly designed motor system, it has a characteristic sound which is particularly appealing to the human ear, and one long beloved of audiophiles.

We manufacture all our drivers in our York factory, and whilst we do make some concessions to modern technology, most of the processes remain the same now as they ever were. Indeed, the tooling and jigs are, to a large extent, the very ones used back in the early years of production.

Whilst we proudly continue to manufacture, unchanged, products with their origins in the early decades of recorded sound reproduction, we don't stand still. Evolution products such as the LGK Type 15" bass units and S4 pressure units demonstrate our continuing pursuit of ultimate performance, whilst the launch of TR32 HF units brought to market the first all new Vitavox driver for nearly 40 years.

Our drivers are available both to brand customers seeking OEM supply and to end-users building their own one-off systems, and the flexibility provided by our in-house manufacturing facilities means that bespoke specifications, both in architecture and finish, can be accommodated.

Explore our range of drive units, covering the entire audible frequency spectrum, and see for yourself why Vitavox drivers power some of the world's finest commercial and user-built loudspeaker systems.
