CONES & DIAPHRAGMS
The cone assembly or diaphragm is the heart of the transducer. Tasked with the conversion of the electrical signal into pistonic, physical motion, every aspect of its construction has a significant impact on ultimate sound quality.
15" Cones
We supply user replaceable cone assemblies for all Type K, AK and LGK 15" loudspeakers. All Vitavox 15" drivers share a common geometry; the cones are interchangeable, so performance specification can be readily changed. If you require a new cone for an old unit, please request the correct impedance and BR characteristics to suit the intended application, as historical cone replacements may mean that any driver type indicated on the chassis is misleading.
In the case of vintage units, in order to retain acoustic balance, we would strongly advise that both cones of a stereo pair be replaced at the same time.
'S' Type diaphragms
Replacement diaphragms for all Vitavox 'S' Type pressure units are available. Just as with the 15" units, the different types are interchangeable, so unit performance can be modified via a change of diaphragm specification. All supplied diaphragms are of the direct drive type with polyester surrounds. It should be noted that these are not of the same construction as those fitted to the earliest S2 units, which featured a formed aluminium surround and voice coil wound on a bonded paper former. The two differing types should not be used side by side in a stereo pair. The current diaphragm design has been in production now for more than 50 years but even we still find ourselves referring to it as the 'new' type!
As with any Vitavox unit, if you're not comfortable replacing any part yourself, then we're happy to do it for you.
Provided that the included instructions are followed, then replacing the cone in any Vitavox driver is a straight forward process, but if you'd rather we did it, then we'd be happy to help.
